First coming together in 1932, our original members formed as a play reading society, meeting in one another’s homes. After a few years, the group decided to formalize, call themselves The Little Theatre Club and finally perform a play to the public.

In 1946, the group reformed after their WWII break and resolved to put on at least two productions per year at Jubilee Hall (now the Masonic Hall). In 1968, we moved our productions to Bishop Auckland Technical College, in 1977 we moved to King James I School and finally in 1994 we moved to our current home – Bishop Auckland Town Hall.

With our final move, we renamed ourselves to what we’re known as today – Bishop Auckland Theatre Society – and now… now we’ve grown to write many of our own productions, win awards, help out at local events and become a registered charity, but most importantly we’ve grown to be a big group of goofy friends stretching over generations…
