Dick Whittington travels to Bishop Auckland with his feline companion, Tommy the Cat, to seek his fortune. When he realises that Newgate Street is not paved with gold he is taken in by Fanny Fitzwarren, the widowed owner of Bishop’s most famous cheese shop, Cheese Made Backwards. Everything seems to be going so well until King Rat, planning to become Lord Mayor of Bishop Auckland, has other ideas…
